NAC Master's Profile: Digital Dave

When did you join NAC Masters and how often do you swim?

My first NAC Masters practice was Thanksgiving Day 2011. I try to swim at least 4 days a week. I've been a Sportsplex regular since it opened.

What is your background as a swimmer and/or athlete?

I started competing as a freshman in high school. My senior year at the TN State Championships I was 3rd in the 100 back, 9th in the 200 IM and on a 4th place free relay. I swam my freshman year at Vandy and got to compete in the SEC Championships in the 200 back. I swam Masters in the mid 90's and went to Nationals twice, placing top 15 in the 50, 100 and 200 backstroke events. My goal now is to make Top 10.

What motivates you to wake up and swim at 6am?

I love to swim. The smell of chlorine and the sounds of a pool always take me to a happy place. The discipline is good for my art and I feel most "connected to the universe" while I'm in the pool. And perhaps most of all, I love seeing my teammates and coaches. I am continually amazed by the talent of our NAC Masters and I feel honored to be part of the program.

Outside of the pool, who are you?

I am Digital Dave, 3D Artist. I've worked independently for the last 25 years as a designer, animator and consultant. I am currently producing an animated 3D movie and preparing a 3D Exhibit for showing both here and in Europe this Fall. I live in West Meade with my dog Bella.

Some people might be surprised to know that...

At Vandy I started off studying physics so I could be an Orthodontist and I ended up in creative writing.

Favorite Coach Brian-ism:

Don't take this too seriously.
