Thursday July 31:
FINALS - With twenty-eight swims tonight, we were able to cut into Florida Gold Coast's lead on us for 3rd place.  Our highlights included a fantastic 1-2 finish in the 15-18 Boys 100 Freestyle as Paschall Davis (52.70) and George Wong (52.97) took the top two podium places.  Eric Craig (53.90) and Chris Giesen (54.12) gave us a total of four swimmers in the top seven.  Christine Anderson used a strong Freestyle leg to place second in the 15-18 Girls 400 IM at a very fast 5:00.75.  Marifrances Henley (15-18 Girls 100 Free) and Taylor Melton (13-14 G 400 IM also swam to second place finishes tonight.  Other scoring swims for Team SES were:  Leah Thornton (15-18 G 200 Back - 7th, 100 Free - 6th), Brian Bolton (15-18 B 200 Back - 8th), Anna Grainger (13-14 G 200 Back - 5th), Angelica Chapman (13-14 G 200 Back - 9th & 400 IM - 10th), Sarah Reynolds (13-14 G 200 Back - 10th), Maclin Davis (13-14 B 200 Back - 4th), Caroline Page (11-12 G 50 Back - 3rd), Genny Pittman (11-12 G 50 Back - 8th), Ashley Szydel (11-12 G 50 Back - 10th), Chatham Dobbs (11-12 B 50 Back - 10th), Alan Liang (11-12 B 50 Back - 9th), Taylor Melton (13-14 G 100 Free - 5th), Raymond Burch (13-14 B 100 Free - 6th), Adam Cornett (13-14 B 100 Free - 10th), Joey Carbone (11-12 B 400 Free - 7th), Megan Goss (15-18 G 400 IM - 10th), Taylor Wilson (15-18 B 400 IM - 10th), Christian Carbone (13-14 B 400 IM - 3rd), and Dylan Rasnick (13-14 B 400 IM - 7th).  A helpful hint if you are planning an extended stay in Atlanta:  If you see a sign at a laundromat that says 24/7, it really means they will turn out the lights and kick you out at 11:00 p.m.!

Wednesday events will be the 200 Free, 11-12 50 Breast/13&O 200 Breast, and 100 Fly.
Monday July 28:
Great fun at the Georgia Aquarium today followed by a trip to the Varsity.  Many of our swimmers got their first look at the 1996 Olympic Pool at Georgia Tech as we swam a pre-meet warmup this afternoon.  Tonight, we will have a team meeting in which team captains will be selected and our focus will turn to the first day of competition on Tuesday.  Real-Time Results Link and Meet Psych Sheet are now posted.  Go SES!
Sunday July 27:
Well, we all made it here safe and sound.  The kids and coaches went to see the Batman movie tonight and it got rave reviews.  We had a team meeting late Sunday to go over the events of the week and the rules of the trip.  We will visit the Georgia Aquarium on Monday followed by an always popular trip to the Varsity and a warmup in the Georgia Tech Pool.

SWIMMER SELECTION PROCESS
The Southeastern All Star team is selected using times from the Southeastern Long Course Championships and the Summer Sectional Meet only.
The team will be comprised of the following number of swimmers per age group:
11-12 Year Olds:  7 Girls and 7 Boys
13-14 Year Olds:  7 Girls and 7 Boys
15-18 Year Olds:  10 Girls and 10 Boys
The top 5 spots for 11-12 and 13-14 Age Groups, and the top 7 spots for the 15-18 Age Group are picked using a point value system (see above table for point charts).  For the 13 and over events, the point system is based on the USA Swimming Summer National Championship (or comparable US Open Meet) time standards.  The point value for the 11 and 12 events are based on the National Top 16 Reportable time standards. The point values for times for each event will be posted at Sectionals and Southeasterns in a chart format.  Using a swimmers best three (3) swims, a point total is summated.  Please note that the following events do not count towards point totals as they are not events in the zone meet:  11-12 800 meter Freestyle, 13 & Over Girls 1500 meter Freestyle, and 13&Over Boys 800 meter Freestyle.
Example: A 13-14 girl swims 28.13 in the 50 free, 1:01.36 in the 100 free, and 2:13.01 in the 200 free.  28.13 is worth 110 points, 1:01.36 is worth 108 points, and 2:13.01 is worth 107 points.  Her three event total would be 325 points.
If one or more of the following events is not represented by the top 5 zone qualifiers in the 11-12 and 13-14 age groups, or top 7 in the 15-18 age group, the swimmer with the fastest time in the listed zone priority events will be selected for the remaining team spots (Remember that there are seven total spots in each gender in the 11-12 and 13-14 Age Groups and a total of ten spots in each gender for the 15-18 Age Group).  Representing an event means having the fastest time for that event from Southeasterns or Sectionals.
11-12:

50 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 50 butterfly
13-14, 15-18 age groups:

50 freestyle (relays at Zones are 200s), 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 100 butterfly
Tiebreakers:

If there are more swimmers qualified than spots available, the zone point value of the qualifying swim will determine the swimmer that is awarded the spot.
If there is still a spot remaining and all priority events are represented, the zone point value of the single best swim will determine the remaining spot.
Any ties will be broken by the point value of the next fastest swim.

DISABILITY SWIMMER SELECTION PROCESS

Disability swimming competitors who apply for inclusion onto the Southeastern Swimming Zone Team must have each of the following criteria:
A.      Applicants must be able to be classified into one of the fifteen internationally recognized disability classifications.
B.      Applicants must be a registered member of Southeastern Swimming, Inc. for the year of the competition.
C.      Applicants must have competed in at least one (1) of the following meets within one (1) calendar year from the start of the competition:  Southeastern Swimming Short Course Championships, Southeastern Swimming Long Course Championships, Southeastern Swimming District Meet (any region),  Any USP Championship
D.      Applicants must complete and return all necessary paperwork and fees to Southeastern Swimming before the stated deadline to be considered for inclusion onto the Southeastern Zone Team.
E.
Applicants must be aged eleven (11) years and not have reached their nineteenth (19) birthday on or before the first day of the Zone Meet to be eligible for selection

For the 2008 Southeastern Swimming Zone Team, no more than one (1) boy and one (1) girl shall be selected onto the team.  These swimmers may represent any of the following age groups:  11-12, 13-14, or 15-18.  In subsequent years, Southeastern Swimming, Inc. shall set the number of available spaces for Disability swimmers each year at the Fall LSC Meeting.

In the case of more applicants than available roster spaces, applicants shall be selected for inclusion onto the team by the following criteria:
- The selection shall be made using the same point value system as does the rest of the Southeastern Swimming Zone Team.  Using up to, but not exceeding a swimmer’s best three (3) zone chart point scoring swims, a total is summated. The highest sum total shall be selected for inclusion onto the Southeastern Swimming Zone Team.

-
Since Short Course Meets are used in the criteria for Disability swimmers, a second point chart shall be created for Short Course Yards.  This chart shall be based on the same formula used for Long Course meters and will use the same base standards for point totals (i.e. NAG Top 16 for 11-12 events, and August National Championship Cuts for 13&O events).
-
Swimmer’s times shall be used in the age group chart for their age on the first day of the Zone Meet.  For example, if a swimmer is 12 at Districts, but will be 13 at the zone meet, that swimmer’s times from Districts shall be used against the 13&O point chart.
-
Please note that the following events do not count towards point totals as they are not events in the zone meet:  11-12 1000 yard/800 meter Freestyle, 13 & Over Girls 1650 yard/1500 meter Freestyle, and 13&Over Boys 1000 yard/800 meter Freestyle.
-
Any ties shall be broken by the highest point value of the swimmer’s single best scoring event.
