The Nashville Aquatic Club won its 37th Southeastern Swimming
Championship title this past weekend, bringing the consecutive
tally to seven and ten of the last eleven. NAC won the team title
by a large margin with a team total of 3,597 points. Excel Aquatics
was second with 1,905 points and City of Mobile was third 1,642
points. It was truly a team effort as nearly every age group has
stars shining bright in the evening finals.
Perhaps no star shined as bright as 10 & under boy Jackson
Defore. Jackson won all seven of his events, breaking Southeastern
Swimming records in six of those and broke the US Swimming National
Age Group Record for 10 & under boys in the 50 back with a
time of 33.23. Jackson was mirrored on the other side of the pool
by 10 and under girl's standout Annie Kyriakidis. Annie won all
seven of her events and broke the Southeastern record in the 100
breast with a time of 1:19.61. Her teammate Erika Giuse was equally
strong winning the 100 fly and 100 back.
In the 11 & 12 age groups Sophie Pilkinton led the girls
to an Age Group High Point award. Sophie won four individual events
and the girls won both relays to secure the high point. The Medley
Relay of Katie Kemp, Emma Blackwood, Aspen Dimmick, and Sophie
Pilkinton won a dramatic race and eclipsed the Southeastern Record
in doing so.
The 13-14 boys were led by victories in the 100 and 200 breastroke
by Alex Goss and top honors in the 400 freestyle for Wesley Nealy.
The highlight for this group of boys however was Saturday night's
Medley Relay, where the team of Ted Curtiss, Alex Goss, Reece
Boyd, and Philip Fossee swam away from the competition breaking
the Southeastern record by over six seconds.
In the senior age group NAC continued to show that they are the
dominant senior team in the LSC winning both the male and female
team high points despite many athletes swimming limited events.
Several of the senior swimmers did not compete each day as they
prepare for US Open next week, or Junior Nationals the second
week of August. When they were in the pool they were very good.
For the men Hayes Johnson won the 200 IM, 400 IM, and the 200
Breast. Alan Maher won the 100 back, Parker Camp the 400 free,
and Dakota Hodgson the 200 fly. For the girls Megan Goss won the
1500 free, and the 200 breast, Deidre Jones won the 100 free,
and Eleanor Phillips the 200 fly.
In all NAC swam to 40 new NAC top tens, 10 team records, 9 southeastern
records, 17 new Junior National standards, and 18 new NAC travel
standards. What an awesome way to wrap up the season for many.
Those that are done, keep an eye on the swimmers that are going
on. This week nine swimmers will be competing in the Southern
Zone Championships. Next week there will be five swimmers competing
in the US Open in Federal Way WA, and the following week we will
have 12 swimmers competing in the US Swimming Junior Nationals
in Federal Way WA. Congratulations to everyone on a job well done!
